Greene King (8)

Greene King is marketing 10 freehold managed pubs for sale with AG&G.

The package includes four sites that have already closed as part of the pub and brewing group’s typical annual activity, ahead of being marketed for sale, and six that remain open and trading as usual.

Of the properties, eight have a combined value of circa £9.4m, with offers invited on the other two.

The sites included in the package are the Butley Ash in Prestbury, Chequers Inn in St Albans, Five Horseshoes in Hertford, Green Dragon in Braintree, Hinderton Arms on the Wirral, The Nags Head in Burntwood, The Old Bell in Oxted, The Robin Hood in Bognor Regis, The Roebuck near Preston, and Ye Olde Windsor Castle in Leatherhead.

Greene King said the sale of the six trading pubs form part of its recent announcement of a new estate strategy to set the business up for future growth.

A spokesperson told MCA the pubco will explore all options available to it regarding the future of the sites.

“Team members have been notified, and we look to be able to share more information in the future.”

It follows reports late last month that Greene King was marketing 13 freehold hotels and pubs for sale with Savills.

In March, Greene King announced a new estate strategy for its pubs, which will see around 300 of its managed sites either converted to an alternative model or evaluated for a potential sale.

Roughly half of these pubs will be converted to leased and tenanted or franchise venues within Greene King’s pub partners estate, with the other half evaluated for a potential sale over the medium-term.

Earlier this week, Greene King reported a set of improved numbers for the 53 weeks to 4 January 2026, increasing group revenue by 3.6% and narrowing its losses to -£23.4m.

Group revenue stood at £2.539bn (2024: £2.450bn), while group adjusted operating profit increased by 9.8% to £217.4m, driven by strong peak trading and disciplined cost control.
